Tips in Taking Care of Your Wood Furniture

In the Philippines, owning furniture is difficult for starting families mainly because of price. It would take months or even years of saving your hard earned money to acquire even just one piece of furniture and the price would also depend on the quality of the furniture. As a starting typical Filipino family, many of us buy plastic furniture that are eventually replaced with elegant wood and cushioned furniture as we gain bonuses, get a higher pay grade, or save enough.

It is really imperative to give it our utmost care for the furniture given all the effort that is put into acquiring them.

Here are tips to make your furniture last longer:

1. Avoid frequent changes in temperature.

Temperature and humidity affects wood moisture content’s drying time. Frequent changes of its moisture content can cause fading or even breaking of the wood. That’s why it is advisable to remove it from windows to avoid it from having direct sunlight.

2. Rotate lamps/vases from time to time

Leaving items such as vases and lamps stagnant will leave marks unto the wood. The precipitation or the accumulation of dirt and other residue like wax can bore into the color or lacquer over time. That’s why using mats as protection might be advisable.

3. Clean up spills immediately

Leaving liquid substances too long on the furniture leave white spots—sometimes these stains become permanent especially if the spilt liquid has high alcohol content. Clean spills immediately. Also, clean them in a bottling motion as carelessly wiping them might spread the affected area bigger.

4. Protect it from ball point pens

When using your furniture as a writing table, us a pad to avoid scratches. Either that or write lightly—notice how some write very heavily on pads that the previous writing bores unto the next series of papers? The same thing happens to your furniture.
